This piece, inspired by a road trip to into the desert southwest in the spring of 2005 & made from this strikingly unusual poplar heartwood, contains many of the vibrant layers of color that so bewitched me as my son and I tooled through the canyons and across the mesas of Arizona & New Mexico.
